Excerpt from Hon Ojasope's interview Comrade Dare Adekambi of Nigerian Tribune.
What is driving your aspiration to represent Ibadan North West/South West Federal Constituency?
Ans: My aspiration for Reps is driven by the motivation for true servant leadership and do things differently because our people keep complaining that the major problem in Nigeria is leadership, so I believe I have adequately prepared myself to be the solution to this problem, particularly in the capacity as Federal Reps.
What plans do you have to make things better in the constituency?
Ans: I have plans to do things differently; I will do most things they have done but in different and more pragmatic ways so that our people can feel the true impacts of dividends of democracy. The implementations of empowerment programs, execution of projects facilitated and regular feedbacks through Constituency stakeholders' meeting twice a year would set me apart from my predecessors. These things look simple but they would go a long way to make difference in perception they have of their Federal Representative.
What feedback are you getting from your campaign trips to various places in the constituency?
Ans: The major feedback is that majority of Nigerians are becoming despondent and fed up of both PDP and APC, which they describe as bird of same feather. Then generally, our people are weary of politicians and the enlightened ones are often hostile to me in the beginning but after civil engagements, they turn new leaves and show me their supports. In general, I am very satisfied with the feedbacks from my campaign but I have been challenged and even more determined to make my "Good" be far better than the best of my predecessors.
What challenges do you think you have based on what you have seen on the field?
Ans: The basic challenges from the field is voter's education. I have to integrate voter's education into my campaign speeches. Education about the BVAS technology, orientation on why they must not sell their votes and what difference it makes if they vote according to their conscience. The results have been encouraging and I pray I become the primary beneficiary of my efforts on voter's education and reorientation.
Are you confident INEC is going to do a good job in conducting credible elections?
Ans: I am very persuaded that INEC already doing a very good job and I can perceive things will go well on the election day. So far so good, INEC is doing very well and I pray God perfects everything and we have large turn out for the elections this year.
Your party's presidential candidate appears unpopular among the people of the state. Do you see this as a setback?
Ans: I don't agree my Presidential candidate is unpopular in my Constituency but I know we still have work to do on selling him as best alternative to the known gladiators with serious moral burdens. Also, I use my popularity in my Constituency to sell my Presidential Candidate because our election is same day. This cannot affect my election negatively because my Constituency is predominantly of educated and enlightened electorates, majority of whom can differentiate between the ballot papers on the election day. That's the major reason I inculcated reorientation and voter's education into my campaign. I am not contesting against persons but against patterns; of vote buying and bandwagon effects. So, my Presidential candidate has no effect on my electoral victory because it has been factored into my campaign already.
