SEYI MAKINDE, THE FOURTH TIER OF GOVERNMENT IN OYO STATE.
Constitutionally, there are three tiers of government in Nigeria, namely; federal, State and local government with different responsibilities but there's a young man in Oyo state who has taken philanthropy to the next level; taking up responsibilities and augmenting the laxity of the government in provision of amenities. So politics aside, let's commend the commendable.
I read a write up on Facebook where the writer compared Seyi Makinde with another intending aspirant whom i have come to respect; claiming they are two of a kind in charity. Though i didn't comment, i disagreed that the man that is about to start his charity foundation is on the same level with the man that has become a charity institution. No! "Don't compare sleep with death"
STOMACH INFRASTRUCTURE: In the political sphere of Oyo state, no one has been this consistent in the provision of what we now describe as stomach infrastructure in Nigeria. Bags of rice, sugar, salt, beans, beverages etc are distributed to various categories of people in the state and this has been consistent the last 15years, increasing yearly. This is even more touching because this man has never served in any government agency or elective office; that is, he is paying back from private pulse.
DRINKING WATER: Seyi Makinde builds boreholes in various communities in Oyo state and as a staff at Omi Titun during the campaign period, i saw hundreds of requests for him to come and donate boreholes to churches, mosques and communities. I don't know where pipe borne water flows presently in Oyo state but i know 95% of good water supplies in the state come from boreholes. No wonder, OmiTitun is his political nomenclature. lol
POWER SUPPLY: The model project at Ajia town in Ona Ara local government of Oyo state is a testimony. The indigenes and settlers in that little town have enjoyed uninterrupted power supply from gas turbine for about 8 years now. Also, Seyi Makinde has donated power transformers to boost distributions to various communities in Oyo State. He believes the emancipation of our small, medium and large industries depend on cheap steady power supplies.
TRANSPORTATION GRANTS: Recently, over a hundred transporters benefited from Nissan Micra distributed as grants to them. At other times, many young men have received buses and cars for transportation business, for inter and intra state shuttles. Seyi Makinde says government alone can't do it and as many as God has blessed should bless others.
PILGRIMAGE: I won't say much on this. Even when federal and state governments are getting weary of pilgrimage sponsorship, Seyi Makinde has remained consistent in sending both christian and Muslim faithfuls yearly on holy pilgrimage.
EDUCATION: Seyi Makinde was a beneficial of government free education and he keeps saying that good education was the foundation of his success. He has donated classrooms, laboratories, laptops, textbooks to schools; including University of lagos and Bishop Phillips Academy in Ibadan. He has said at various fora that free and qualitative education is not negotiable, that is the best legacy to the future of this state. An educated generation is a liberated one.
REVOLVING LOAN FACILITIES: Apart from those given to individuals across the state, he gives the petty traders revolving loans to empower and sustain their businesses. This gesture has been on for over a decade. This he does without attention and not directly involved in the administrations. He gives with simplicity and humility. No wonder many traders see him as their messiah.
MONTHLY STIPENDS TO WIDOWS AND AGED: For about 3 years now, Seyi Makinde gives weekly allowances to widows and the aged, selected at random from across the state. This I witnessed several times and Engr Seyi Makinde does not even know the beneficiaries of these stipends, so there's no issue of expecting something in return.
So friends, you can see why when someone i love and respect so much compared Seyi Makinde to an intending philanthropist, i just "yinmu" and commended the smartness of the writer, instead of the subject of the writeup. I said within me that if that great man is a philanthropist, then Seyi Makinde is a government, more than philanthropist. Seyi Makinde is an household name and another tier of government in Oyo State. People appeal to him daily for help and aids, he has been consistent in charity works even though he is yet to have the opportunity to serve his people legitimately through their mandate.
Ok now, let's provoke one another to good works and let the charity works continue. Seyi Makinde o lori meji o, emi naa fe se charity o. However, let's sincerely commend anyone that alleviates the suffering of our people, particularly from hard earned resources, just that they have grades.
